Following a massive wave of migration to Europe that began in 2015, several refugees arrived in France to seek asylum. In Jaurès there is a camp that is constantly growing. Since January I wanted to go there and I began to document the camp to record what is really happening, and who are these people who had to leave their country because of the war and the constants threats from authoritarian regimes like Taliban and ISIS.
Down there, I knew Hashimi, an Afghan man who fled from his country after being attacked against his life and being the target of a shootout where he was hit by Kalashnikov bales. It is thanks to him that I was able to access the camp and to know the real living conditions of him and the other migrants. They live in a situation beyond the misery. What I have seen is that despite the inhuman conditions of reception, they always expect to succeed. According to them, France means freedom! The dream of this freedom is simply to live as a human being again.
